EUDAMED and SwissDAMED
EUDAMED is the European database for medical devices, SwissDAMED its Swiss counterpart. Both register products and the companies that bring them to market.
What it means
In EUDAMED, manufacturers, authorised representatives and importers register and receive a single registration number (SRN). It also holds UDI data, certificates, clinical investigations and incident reports. Its modules become mandatory step by step.
SwissDAMED is run by Swissmedic for Switzerland, which is not connected to EUDAMED. Whoever supplies both markets registers in both databases.
Why it matters in procurement
An importer without registration may not place products on the market. For procurement, the registration of manufacturer and importer is evidence that tenders and audits ask for.
