Article master
The article master is the register of every article a healthcare facility or group procures: one record per product with name, category, pack size, unit, supplier and numbers such as the GTIN.
What it means
Master data is the stable base data on articles, suppliers and sites; the article master is the part that describes the products. It grows from many sources: ERP exports, supplier price lists, invoices. Along the way duplicates creep in, the same article under several names or numbers, and gaps, such as missing units or categories.
A good article master is classified consistently, enriched with the GTIN and maintained by set procedures.
Why it matters in procurement
Every price comparison, every pooling and every order builds on the article master. If it is unclean, prices cannot be compared and demand cannot be combined; tenders lack quantities, and units do not fit in logistics.
